Two Dallas hospital employees were killed and a suspected gunman was shot and wounded by police in a shooting inside a hospital on Saturday, officials said.
Hospital spokesman Ryan Owens said the shooting happened around 11 a.m. inside Methodist Health System.
“A Methodist Health System police officer arrived at the scene, confronted the suspect and fired his weapon at the suspect, injuring him,” Owens said in a statement.
The names of the injured or their locations at the hospital were not immediately released.
In a statement, the hospital system expressed its condolences over the death.
“The Methodist Health System family is heartbroken by the loss of two of our beloved team members,” the system’s leadership said in a statement. “Our entire organization is saddened by this unimaginable tragedy.”
The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to another hospital in undisclosed condition and in police custody, Owens said.
Dallas police referred questions to hospital police, who did not return phone calls for comment.
The shooting follows hospital shootings in Little Rock, Arkansas, in September that left a visitor dead and four others dead in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in June.
