Pittsburgh, Pa. – Target 11 has learned that 16-year-old Hezekiah Nixon and 19-year-old Shawn Davis are suspects in an earlier shooting. Nixon and Davis were arrested Friday and charged with attempted murder after they opened fire outside a funeral at a Brighton Heights church, injuring five people.

Target 11 has learned that Nixon and Davis have been in trouble before. Multiple sources told Target 11 that Davis was one of the teenagers who opened fire at Rose Park Mall last year. An argument led to the shooting inside the mall, police said. No one was shot, but it sent shoppers in the crowded mall fleeing.

Davis was charged as a juvenile, but the case was dismissed after a judge ruled there were identification issues, sources said, and left gunshot residue on Davis’ hand.

Even before the Rose Park Mall shooting, Davis was charged in August 2020 with aggravated assault and felon in possession of a firearm.
He was charged as an adult in that case. According to court documents obtained by Target 11, Davis pleaded guilty in that case in April of this year. He has been in jail since his bond was revoked following the Rose Park Mall shooting.
A judge gave him credit for time served. He was released after about seven months of a 10-23 month sentence. He was ordered on probation for three years and placed on electronic monitoring for six months.

According to court records, the day of the funeral will be the last day of house arrest.
Sources say Nixon was charged with juvenile delinquency after allegedly pointing a weapon at people.
No one was injured and Nixon was sent to an after-school program, according to sources.

Target 11 reached out to the courts and the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office for comment, but did not hear back.
Earlier this month, after a triple shooting on the North Side, Pittsburgh’s police commander expressed frustration with the system at his weekly news conference.
“There’s something wrong with our system when we have people who can consistently go out and commit more violent crimes… I’m tired of walking out of these scenes and seeing what I see and everyone else looking back at us. Can be solved alone. we can not. We are part of the solution. We are not the whole solution,” said Cmdr. Richard Ford.
