Guwahati: Implementation of 5G technology will enable India to achieve the goal of digital empowerment and improving people’s well-being, said Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman Dr PD Vaghela on Friday.
“5G technology will provide significant improvements in network performance and is likely to transform industry and society, putting the country on an unprecedented growth trajectory. 5G will have a significant impact on various industries and the economy as a whole,” he said at a business meeting in Guwahati.
Vaghela also said that India is the second largest telecom market in the world now with 117 crore telecom and 825 million subscribers.
He said that India considered technology as an important factor for two things, one for rapid economic growth and second for social and digital integration. According to him, the Digital India program has helped a lot in expanding the use of technology and the Digital India brand has seen significant changes in various aspects.
The TRAI chief also highlighted how stakeholders can work together to accelerate 5G infrastructure deployment while taking into account the issues and challenges in the northeastern states.
He said that the main importance of the government is that everyone has access to the internet and digital, including people who do not use it, to ensure that every part of the society gets connectivity at any cost.
Regarding the need to adopt new digital technologies for social and economic development, Vaghela said that digitization of the economy as well as social life is of utmost importance in today’s world.
Emphasizing the need for digital literacy and digital infrastructure, he said that developing digital infrastructure and connecting every household is essential and that is the only way the common citizen can explore the opportunities in the economy. .
