Guwahati: Assam Police busted a human trafficking ring and rescued a kidnapped girl from Sarthebari area of ​​Barpeta district, officials said on Tuesday.

Two people accused of being involved in human trafficking were also arrested by the police.

A senior police officer informed that the girl was abducted from Sarthebari area after a year. At that time, the police forces arrested Sahar Ali, known as Bablu.

While interrogating Ali, the police found that he had sold the girl to a place in Haryana for Rs 1.2 lakh.

Police have been searching for the toddler since then. The officer said that recently Assam police with the help of Haryana police rescued the abducted girl.

Two people named Rajesh Kumar and Anil Kumar have been arrested for this. Police are investigating to uncover further links to human trafficking.

Notably, human trafficking is one of the most pressing problems in Assam for many years. According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, the state recorded the third highest number of cases last year.

In 2021, more than 203 cases of human trafficking were recorded compared to 124 cases in 2020.

About 460 victims were trafficked from the state, while 425 victims were rescued in 2021, according to NCRB data.
