ATLANTA – A video of a well-known Atlanta pastor calling young black men to the altar during a church service has gone viral.
Pastor Jamal Bryant called for action during a Sunday church service at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia.
“Today, I want to pray for a hedge of protection for our black youth in this community. I want all of our black people to come to the altar, black men,” said Pastor Jamal Bryant.

The video has now gone viral on social media. Bryant wanted all blacks under the age of 20 in the sanctuary to come to the altar.
Bryant held a powerful moment midway through the serve. Bryant said prayer is needed. “I fear that this generation is adapting to a culture of violence that has no solution. We lost six rappers to gun violence this summer and this fall,” Bryant said.
Bryant spoke Channel 2’s Larry Sproul Rapper ‘Takeoff’ from Atlanta’s music group ‘Migos’ on the latest murder. Takeoff was shot dead in Houston.
“Yet, we wonder why our young people are miserable, anxious and depressed because all the people they look up to are below zero right now,” Bryant said.

In the video, Bryant praised the young people at the altar, saying, “You better scream for these young people. Come on, you better scream for these business leaders. Do you open up to your youth? These young people are going to change the world.
But Bryant didn’t stop with the youth. He said, “I want all the black people to come up to the altar and surround our boys.”
Bryant said the church needs to act now. “I want the new birth to really lead the way,” he said.
“Gun violence has invaded our nation and our city,” Bryant said. Yes, he believes in the power of prayer, but he said we can’t stop there. “I believe that prayer works, but when I got down on my knees I got more prayers answered,” said Frederick Douglass. I think prayer is the beginning, but behind it must come a workable executable plan.
