Guwahati:
In an attempt to revive its political fortunes in Assam and place it in the 2024 state polls, the Assam Congress today announced the Assam edition of the Bharat Jodo Yatra along with the biggest march across the country by party leader Rahul Gandhi. he started.
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) is organizing this walk as a joint link of the party, from Dhubri in lower Assam to Sadiya in upper Assam, with the aim of covering 834 km of the state.
The Assam walk will begin on Tuesday, led by APCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah, and plans to cover 834 km in the state in 70 days. The yatra will start from Golakganj in Dhubri district on the Assam-West Bengal border, to Sadiya district on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
Besides all the state top leaders of the Congress, several central leaders will also come for the Assam version of the Yatra. However, Rahul Gandhi will not be there, party sources said.
Battered by a series of defections by party leaders to the BJP, the Congress hopes that the Yatra will give the party a much-needed boost ahead of the Lok Sabha and Panchayat elections, which will be held next year.
