Danville, Va. – It was a violent weekend in downtown Danville. Three people were injured and one died in two separate shootings.
To help heal the traumatized parts of the city, Danville police conducted what they call the Heart Walk.
HEART stands for Heal and Engage After Recent Trauma.
Like this Sunday’s drive-by shooting in Greenwich Circle, Danville police officers went door-to-door in a crime-plagued neighborhood that sent three people to the hospital.
“We are grateful to help community members affected by a disaster know what is going on. Give them accurate information, eliminate misinformation, and we love talking about these walks. If a citizen or resident has another issue, we will connect them with the right resources,” said Danville Police Public Relations Specialist Jennifer Bowles.
Along with Danville police officers, people with Danville Pittsylvania Community Services join forces to inform people about the trauma and mental health counseling they provide.
“Let them know the community is around them and here for them. Let them know that all stakeholders are there for them for this incident or events,” said Crisis Services Coordinator, Lauren Kressel.
The drive-by shooting comes on the heels of Saturday’s deadly shooting at a Danville mall.
Police said 26-year-old Tyshias King was killed and the suspect, 18-year-old Christian Pinckney, remains at large.
Pinckney is considered armed and dangerous, according to police.
If you have information about any of the shootings this weekend, police ask that you contact patrol at 799-6510, investigations at 799-6508, 911, Crime Stoppers at 434-793-0000, and any officer you see. , via social media, email Crimetips@danvilleva.gov, or use the Crime Tips app CARE.
