Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill, a pediatrician from Brampton Ontario who became famous for her criticism of the government’s response to COVID-19, has been ordered to pay $1 million in legal fees after her defamation claim was dismissed earlier this year.
The charges are related to a $12-million legal action brought by a physician, who claims to be against a group of 23 doctors, experts, a former president of the Ontario Medical Association, and journalists. from multiple reports. The case was dismissed in February. Gill is arguing for that dismissal.
Judge Elizabeth Stewart ruled this week that Gill must pay the defendants up to $1.1 million in legal fees. Dr. Ashvinder Kaur Lambda, who sued some of those people, also had to pay part of the costs.
Gill’s attorney, Jeff Saikaley, told the National Post that the loss of the lawsuit and damages are on appeal.
Gill first released the mockery in late 2020, citing what other doctors, professors, and journalists had said on Twitter that he described as malicious.
Gill’s statement of claim stated, “Individual speakers, like a pack of hyenas, tried and, in fact, coordinated a circle. [Gill] to destroy his career and his reputation.”
‘To say COVID’
During COVID-19, Gill was one of the doctors and medical experts who disagreed with the government’s information about the epidemic.
For example, Gill cited evidence that hydroxychloroquine was effective in treating COVID-19, in his view. He tweeted about T-Cell immunity, citing studies from other medical researchers and researchers who share similar views.
He also spoke about the scientific opinion of the world that shows the views that the closures are harmful and the consequences they will have on the economy, health, and the welfare of the people. Gill also questioned the efficacy of the new COVID-19 vaccines.
On August 4, 2020, Gill tweeted His opinion: “There is absolutely no medical or scientific reason for this long, dangerous and unnecessary ban.”
Gill said he has been vilified by other doctors and the media for his views. He still faces disciplinary action by the provincial legislature for misrepresentations — including warnings that his social media posts suggesting vaccines are ineffective and that lockdowns are unnecessary — could be dangerous. to public health.
Gill appeared before the review board on October 12, his attorney, Lisa Bildy, said the complaints filed against Gill were unrelated to any patient complaints, but the doctor “shared research and scientific opinion on his social media account going. to the COVID talk that these complainers like.”
On October 13., the College of Professionals and Solicitors of Ontario (CPSO) issued a notice of arraignment for Gill to appear before a criminal tribunal, for “shaming, defaming, or unprofessional,” in reference to his comments on COVID-19.
All actions taken by the listed CPSO are subject to appeal.
Gill’s attorney Jeff Saikaley did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
