Assam’s famous singer, Neel Pawan Baruah passed away after a long illness. He was 84. Baruah was born in Jorhat to the famous poet of Assam Binanda Chandra Baruah, famous for ‘Dhwani Kobi’, and Labanya Prava Baruah. A graduate Kala Bhawan in Santiniketan, Baruah was a prolific artist whose oeuvre included painting, pottery, mask making and poetry writing.

After completing his graduation in art, he studied glazed pottery at Sriniketan and also got a job at Garhi’s studio in New Delhi. An artist who has often experimented with different media, Baruah has left behind a rich legacy of paintings on cigarette packs and matchboxes that have been exhibited in many exhibitions in the region and across the country.
It is worth noting: In 2021, he was awarded the prize “Assam Sourabh” an award given by the Government of Assam. Baruch got married Dipali Borthakur, ah “Nightingale of Assam” who passed away on December 21, 2018.
