One person was killed and six others were injured in a shooting Monday night during a Halloween party at a Kansas City, Kansas, home, police said.

Kansas City Police Chief Carl Oakman said at a news conference that 70 to 100 high school-aged students were inside the home when the shooting happened, CNN affiliate KMBC reports.

The shooting happened after 9 p.m. when a group of uninvited guests were asked to leave the party, the chief said. According to Oakman, at least one person in the group began shooting into the crowd at the party.

“The landlords asked them to leave. When they left, they started shooting at the house. Shooting randomly,” Oakman said.

Oakman said two of the injured were in critical condition.

Information about the party has been posted on social media, and Oakman noted that it is “by invitation only.”

The suspects were in a dark or gray SUV, Oakman added.

Expressing dismay at the violence, the police chief said the shooting was disturbing and unacceptable.

“These things in society must stop. There are a lot of guns here. It was a party with high school-age students,” Oakman said. “Everybody has guns now. We have to be smarter than this. ”

No arrests were made Monday night.
