Mobile, Ala. (WALA) — A federal judge ruled Monday that a man accused in connection with a convenience store shooting must serve two years in prison on gun charges.
Trenryon Jevon King, 23, pleaded guilty in July to unlawful possession of a conversion device. He admitted to having a Glock switch, or chip, that turns a semi-automatic gun into a fully automatic weapon capable of firing hundreds of rounds in seconds with the flick of a trigger.
Federal and local law enforcement authorities sounded the alarm about the devices in May, saying they were showing up on Mobile’s streets in troubling numbers.
According to King’s written plea agreement, he had a Glock Model 19 9mm pistol modified with a device known as a Glock chip or switch. It turns a semi-automatic firearm into a fully automatic weapon, allowing the user to unload hundreds of rounds in seconds with a single squeeze of the trigger.
State court assault charges are pending against King for the March incident. Police allege the man shot and killed two people after getting into an argument with another man at the M&M Food Mart in Theodore.
