A man has been arrested after he fired shots at police officers in Moose Jaw and was placed on emergency alert.
A Moose Jaw Police Service (MJPS) investigation revealed firearms at a home in the 800 block of 4th Avenue NW prior to the shooting on the evening of Oct. 21.
A search warrant was issued for the home and police responded to the area.
Members of the Regina Police Service Tactical Unit were activated to support the search, according to an MJPS news release.
However, before the unit arrived, a man left the home and fired a handgun at MJPS officers before leaving the area. Police said no one was injured in the shooting.
Police created a cordon while tactical unit and dog unit members began a search of the suspect area, the statement said.
Around 9:50 p.m., shots fired were reported near a home in the 300 block of Ross Street W, MJ Police said.
Officers responded to the area and located the suspect in a backyard on Rose Street.
Crisis negotiators spoke with the suspect and convinced him to surrender peacefully.
Police explained that the accused was taken into custody at 10.36pm without further incident.
The emergency warning issued following the incident was canceled at 11 pm
Girard Saddleback, 32, of Calgary, is currently charged with attempted murder, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.
MJ Police said they are investigating several other allegations against Saddleback.
Saddleback was also wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for illegal loitering in Calgary.
Saddleback is scheduled to make his first appearance in provincial court on the charges on Monday, Oct. 24.
According to the news release, three men and one woman have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Police said no chargesheet has been filed for these arrests as the investigation is ongoing.
Moose Jaw Police said there was no further risk associated with the shooting and no members of the public were injured in the incident.
