STRICTLY’s Motsi Mabuse is suing her ex-husband after he accused her of manipulating him in her story.
Timo Kulczak says that Motsi’s claims that he stopped her from having children, blocked her access to money and concluded that there is “no truth” and “just to push book sales”.
She accused him of not warning her that he was publishing it despite being friends since their breakup.
Timo, 45, said from his Hamburg home: “He did something bad to me and my family that I don’t accept.
“Now I’m at a point where I can’t just let things go as they are when something is put out in public without the truth.”
Her lawyer Samy Hammad said: “False claims are made, they are not good, and at this point, Mrs Mabuse has a responsibility, morally and ethically, to address and correct the record.”
In Finding My Own Rhythm: My Story, Strictly judge Motsi, 41, says that in their 11th year of marriage, Timo paid her an allowance from what she earned from her dance teaching and television appearances.
According to her, Timo rejected her pleas to have a baby or run a dance school together and refused to leave her – despite her many pleas.
The couple, who met at a dance competition in England, married in 2003.
She moved to Germany from her native South Africa when she was 18 to live with him.
They divorced in 2014, and she had a good idea. He said: “We hugged each other and we shed tears. No ‘War of the Roses’, no bad blood.
“I was very surprised by what he wrote. I understand that he wants to make the book interesting, but he doesn’t want to waste it.”
After publishing it in the summer he asked Motsi to set the record straight and clarify on his social media but he refused and told him to speak to his lawyer.
‘A loving and caring husband’
Timo said: “I am very sad and I am very hurt. Looking back, I remember a very good time and a good and happy time that cannot be compared to some of the claims about me that I see now.
“In marriage we supported each other and we were very happy when we were together.
“I’m not public now, that’s my choice. When Motsi joined Strictly, many magazines asked me for interviews but I refused and I didn’t talk about our time together.
“I thought we had a very happy marriage, for the most part, and I had no idea about the administration.”
Timo said that he and his family helped Motsi settle in Germany.
She continued: “I am a loving and caring husband who is always by her side, whenever she needs help.
“I don’t think I’m in control, I see everything I’ve done is organizing and helping him.
“When Motsi arrived from South Africa he didn’t know anyone, didn’t have a driver’s license and didn’t know how to speak German.
“This means that I and my family have to work hard for him to be able to make decisions and build a life.
“We met at a dance competition in England and I fell in love with him.
“If Motsi comes into a room he can put you in a good mood, like the sun when he’s there.”
Timo and Motsi became national champions in Germany, and he added, “he’s very famous here for his TV work (on Let’s Dance).”
He added: “I could have been in front of the cameras but I preferred not to.
“So, when Motsi was on the red carpet, I went to the back aisle.”
In 2015, Motsi remarried after falling in love with her new dance partner Evgenij – they got together after Timo’s competition ended.
Timo’s lawyer, Mr Hammad, said: “We can do legal work in Germany and England.
“How things are going, how the other side is going to respond is Ms Mabuse.
“We are working hard to reach a good agreement.”
But she added: “Motsi Mabuse is a role model for millions of women and committed to women’s empowerment.
“But I think it’s morally and ethically wrong to present yourself as a victim of a marriage to increase the sales of your book.
“This behavior is very offensive to my client. Ms Mabuse has a moral and legal obligation to rectify that.
