North Carolina man charged in connection with deadly Charlottesville shooting | Media Pyro

Charlottesville, Va. (WVIR) – A man from Charlotte, North Carolina has been charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm.

On Monday, Oct. 31, Marcel Darrell Washington was taken into custody without incident in Tennessee, authorities said.

The charges stem from a shooting at a downtown mall in the early hours of Sunday, Oct. 23. Davon J. Police say Wilson suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead at UVA Medical Center. Two other people were injured in the shooting and were last reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities say they obtained the warrant on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

“While the Charlottesville Police Department and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office understand that there is significant interest in the status of the investigation, it is always paramount to proceed in a manner that protects the integrity of the case and ensures the safety of all involved,” CPD and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office said in Monday’s announcement.

Transfer proceedings are in progress. Washington does not yet have an appearance date in Charlottesville General District Court.
