Phoenix (3TV/CBS 5) – A shooting in a southwest Phoenix neighborhood left one dead and seven others injured Saturday.
Phoenix police say they are still searching for an unidentified man who shot and injured eight people at a home near 63rd Avenue and Miami Street in Phoenix Saturday night. Officers said they received a call around 9:30 p.m. reporting a shooting at a house party. The caller said several people were injured and were being taken to the hospital by family and friends.
When officers arrived, witnesses said someone they did not know came into the home and tried to cause trouble. They said a large group was standing in the front yard when the same man opened fire on the crowd. The man left the area in a car before officers arrived at the home. “We were nervous but we didn’t see anything. We heard something, but we heard the helicopter that was here,” said Sonia Alvarez, who lives nearby. “I felt safe here until last night.”
Investigators learned four people were hospitalized and four others were at home with injuries. One of those hospitalized, 37-year-old Patrick Fowler, died of his injuries. Another victim is in critical condition. The other injured adults and a teenager had non-life threatening injuries. “We don’t know what happened at that party. I mean, what an inspiration,” said Adriana Garcia, who lives next door. “We won’t be too calm until we know what happened because it’s difficult.”
The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident or who can identify any of the suspects to call the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness (480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish speakers).
