Fred VanVleet and the Toronto Raptors should have been confident heading into their recent matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers. Not only did they win their previous meeting 119-109, but Doc Rivers’ team is also missing Joel Embiid. A 4-2 start to the season looked good for Nick Nurse’s team.
VanVleet was the Raptors’ worst performer of the season in a 90-112 loss against the 76ers.
The Raptors’ All-Star guard was completely off his game as he registered one point, five assists and three rebounds while going 0-11 from the field and 0-8 from three-point range. It ended VanVleet’s 77-game streak of hitting at least one three-pointer and one of his worst performances in years.
VanVleet even set some career lows on the night in terms of his shooting, as he went 34 minutes on the court without making a field goal and missed 11 shots. Undoubtedly a night the All-Stars will want to forget as soon as possible.
Toronto Raptors: Pascal Siakam brings back Fred VanVleet after a terrible night.
Pascal Siakam brought his A-game once again, dropping 26 points to go along with ten rebounds and six assists in 36 minutes against the 76ers. The Raptors’ superstar in the making wasn’t concerned about VanVleet’s struggles on the night.
As SI reported, Siakam was still backed up following VanVleet’s one-point game.
“I mean, it happens.
“We’re not really worried about shot-making because he’s done it at a high level and we know he can do it. Maybe one of those nights.
VanVleet had a bit of a slow start to the season. He has managed to score 20 points or more in one of six games so far despite averaging 20.3 points per game last season.
Fans are hoping VanVleet finds his rhythm soon, especially for the big money contract he’s due. We all know what he is capable of when he plays well. Knowing how he performs when the chips are down, it would be foolish to count him out.
The Raptors will next take to the court when they welcome the Atlanta Hawks to the Scotiabank Arena. The squad will certainly be looking to bounce back from their horrendous loss at the hands of the 76ers, and hopefully we’ll see a much-improved performance from VanVleet.
