An Arnaudville man was arrested this weekend after allegedly shooting a neighbor in the leg while trying to shoot the man’s dog.
Joshua Boudreau, 42, was charged with reckless endangerment and unlawful use of a firearm. He is a member of the St. Landry Parish School Board.
The investigation revealed that Joshua Boudreau shot at his neighbor’s dog on his property and hit the neighbor in return. The neighbor, who was standing in his own backyard, suffered a minor leg injury and was taken to an area hospital. Boudreaux told deputies that he called in the incident and that the shooting was recorded on his home security system.
Deputies reviewed video that showed the dog was on Boudreaux’s property when he approached the dog holding the dog’s gun. Boudreaux then fired a round from his gun and the projectile ricocheted off a piece of concrete, striking the dog’s owner. Boudreaux told deputies that law enforcement and animal control had been to her home on several occasions and had even taken the dog away due to its aggressive behavior.
Boudreaux told deputies she has a disabled child who loves dogs and fears for her safety.
During an interview with Boudreaux’s neighbor, he stated that he was picking up trash in his backyard when he heard a “bang” and realized he had been shot. The neighbor advised deputies that Boudreaux had no right to shoot his dog, but that the charges would be dropped if Boudreaux wrote him a check for $100,000. When deputies advised the victim that they would not give him a check, the victim said he was not leaving the charges.
Boudreaux said he did not see the neighbor in his yard before he shot the dog.
