New Delhi, November 6 (IANS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday claimed to have arrested the accused, who was on the run, since an ambush was carried out on a convoy of the Chief of Correctional Services.
The suspect was identified as Machukring Zamshim Shimray alias Ningkham.
The case relates to the attack on the 46th convoy of the Assam Rifles on November 13, 2021, by a group of armed militants near Sialsih village in Churachandpur district of Manipur.
As a result of the attack, seven people, including Commanding Officer Lieutenant General Viplav Tripathi, his wife and young son, and four other Assam Rifles were killed and six others were injured.
Earlier FIR in this case was filed in Singngat police station, Churachandpur district under sections 121, 121A, 302, 307, 326, 34 of IPC, Section 25 (1-C) of Arms Act, Sections 10, 16, 18, 20 , 39 of the UA(P) Act and Section 5 of the Explosive Substances Act.
Later, the investigation into the matter was taken over by the NIA.
“On November 5, based on a tip-off, a joint team of NIA, Assam Rifles and Assam Police conducted a special operation and arrested Machukring Ningkham of Yaingangpokpi, Imphal East district of Manipur, for whom the NIA had announced a reward. for a sum of Rs 4. Lakh. The accused was an active cadre of the Manipur Naga Peoples’ Front and was directly involved in the ambush,” said an NIA official.
Further investigation is underway in this regard.
