Three family members and a tenant were among the four people shot to death in a domestic violence incident in Aurora on Sunday, the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office said.

Two of the victims filed for protective orders against their suspected killer six days before he fatally shot them, court records show.

On Tuesday, the coroner’s office identified the victim as 51-year-old Jesus Serrano. Maria Anita Serrano, 22; Kenneth Eugene Greenlook, 20; and 49-year-old Rudolfo Salgado Perez. Their death is considered to be murder.

Police said Jesus Serrano is the father of the victim, Maria Serrano, and Kenneth Look is Maria’s husband. Rudolfo Perez was renting space in the house.

Police said two “very young” children and Maria Serrano’s sister were inside the home at the time of the shooting but were not injured.

Police have identified the suspect as Joseph Mario Castorena (21). He is the ex-boyfriend of Maria Serrano’s sister, according to police officials and court records.

Jesus and Maria Serrano filed an Oct. 24 petition for orders of protection against Serrano, citing Serrano’s ongoing abuse of their family member. Maria Serrano’s sister also applied for a protective order the same day, and a judge granted her request and Jesus Serrano’s.

Court records show Maria Serrano’s case was dismissed before the judge made a decision on the protective order.

“My family and I have been going through this for three years straight,” Maria Serrano wrote in the petition for a protective order. “We’re tired of it.”

Castorena’s criminal history includes multiple abuse cases, including a 2020 child abuse charge and a 2020 domestic violence charge. In 2021, he was arrested for violating a protection order but the charge was dismissed.
