Kansas City, Mo. (KCTV) Prosecutors have charged a 22-year-old man with multiple felonies in connection with a shooting at a Halloween party that left one person dead and six others injured.
Dayjon Estelle is charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated assault, two counts of endangering a child (felony) and two counts of endangerment (misdemeanor).
Monday night, officers were called to a shooting westbound on I-635 and south of Metropolitan Avenue just after 9 p.m. According to law enforcement, 70-100 high school-aged people attended a house party by social media invitation only, and the homeowners were also present. At the party, all but the homeowners were teenagers, mostly high school students, police said.
Some uninvited guests came and asked to leave. While they were leaving, they opened fire on the party.
Seven people were shot in that shootout. Turner High School student Katron Harris, 17, died. Another person was hospitalized and released Tuesday morning. Five others were treated for life-threatening injuries and remain in hospital, police indicated. The age of the victims is between 15-18 years.
Estelle was booked into the Wyandotte County Adult Detention Center on Tuesday.
