12:43 AM: Seattle Fire has “scenes of violence” on the way to the 5200 block of 17th SW, where a 30-year-old man was reportedly shot in the back. There is no word yet on the circumstances.
1:03 AM: No further information yet. Emergency-radio traffic was hijacked by an unrelated major incident on I-5 in North Seattle, so we may not be able to find out more information until this morning.
1:39 AM: Police now say he is dead. They are canvassing nearby residences for security video.
2:27 AM: Still waiting for details. The last shooting in West Seattle was in June, at the age of 56 Anthony Gonzalez Killed in a tent on June 26. His killer was arrested and charged days later.

3:02 AM: Here’s what police say happened this morning:
At 12:22 p.m., police responded to the 5200 block of 17th Avenue SW for reports of gunshots. Officers arrived and found a man who had been shot at a residence. Police and Seattle Fire Department medics attempted life-saving measures, but doctors pronounced him dead at the scene.
Members of SPD’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to process the scene for evidence.
Homicide detectives also responded and will continue to lead the investigation.
