HAMILTON, Ohio (WXIX) – Two people, including a 3-year-old child, are dead and two others were injured after a shooting in Butler County Tuesday evening, Hamilton Police Lt. John Richardson confirmed.
Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of S. Second Street, where they found four victims with gunshot wounds, Richardson explained.
Hamilton police said one person was at the scene and three others were taken to hospital.
Police said one of the injured succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Officials said the 3-year-old was injured by bullet fragments.
The other victims’ conditions are unknown at this time.
Local residents say that the two victims were teenagers.
“They were here, they were young, they had a life, and guess what?” Juan Clemmons snapped her fingers.
Clemmons was among those in Bailey Square, south of Hamilton, when news of the shooting caused an uproar Wednesday morning.
He says he knew one of the victims well. No, he calls for more programming to accommodate at-risk youth.
“I want to see more activity for our kids,” Clemons said. “What do our children want to go to? Nowhere.”
S. Dorrie Sims, owner of Big Mom’s Market, says changes need to be made.
“I mean, it doesn’t do us any favors by having conversations about it,” Sims said. “Actions need to be taken.”
Big Mom’s Market goes down from the shooting scene. Sims says the victims often came to his shop.
“It’s a very sad situation going on right now,” she said. “I really think the police need to step it up a bit more. They complain about some things they might have problems with, but it’s a struggle for us too. This is a real struggle. “
The Hamilton Police Department is expected to release more information tomorrow, and we expect the coroner to release the names of the two victims of this shooting.
This is an ongoing investigation.
The Hamilton Police Department is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Investigations Division at 513-868-5811 ext. 2002..
