3 football players killed in UVA shooting | Media Pyro

Charlottesville, Va. (WWBT) – The University of Virginia is in mourning after a shooting on campus left 3 dead and two injured.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the parking garage behind the Drama Building on Culbreth Road.

UVA has confirmed that the suspect, 22-year-old Christopher Darnell Jones, is a junior varsity student.

Jones was named to the UVA football team in 2018. Prior to attending UVA, Jones graduated from Petersburg High School and previously attended Varina High School.

At a press conference Monday, UVA President James Ryan confirmed that the victims of the shooting were members of the football team.

  • Laval “Tyler” Davis Jr., Jr., wide receiver, Dorchester, SC
  • Devin Chandler, Jr., wide receiver, Huntersville, NC

“This is a sad, shocking and tragic day for our UVA community,” Ryan said.

Two other injured footballers were admitted to hospital. There is no word on their condition.

UVA police said Jones was taken into custody.
