The victims were in an informal settlement in Claremont when unknown assailants attacked them at 22:30.

The accused fled from the spot. According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naikkar, the provincial organized crime unit is investigating the charges of murder and attempted murder.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, condemned the killings and called for the arrest of the killers.

“Incidents like this should be condemned by all sectors of society and we urge citizens to work with investigators from the Provincial Organized Crime Unit to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“There is no reason to justify killing people in such a brutal way,” said Makhwanazi.

The Provincial Organized Crime Unit is appealing to members of the community to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation by calling Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or using the MYSAPS APP to share information.

Police said all information received will be kept confidential.
