The Philadelphia 76ers want to release their third-year guard Tyreese Maxey. While the NBA’s top scorers Joel Embiid and James Harden have two seasoned All-Stars on the team, the two veterans want their young teammate Maxey to take his scoring to another level.
Last year, Maxey was a temporary replacement in the starting lineup for a disgruntled Ben Simmons. While Simmons waited for a trade, Maxey seized the opportunity and earned himself a permanent promotion.
In 75 games, Maxey doubled his production during his sophomore effort, averaging 17 points and four assists. He improved his shooting from three as he knocked down 42 percent of his deep shots after averaging just 30 percent his rookie year.
Maxey’s three-point scoring was definitely a question mark coming out of college, as he made just 29 percent of his threes at the University of Kentucky. However, Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey was confident that Maxey’s will to develop in all areas of the game will allow the youngster to be consistent in the three-point shooting department.
So far, Maxi has maintained his winning streak from three. Through the first seven games of the 2022-2023 season, Maxey is hitting 47 percent of his threes while taking two more attempts per game compared to his sophomore season.

Considering it’s only a small sample size, Maxey will continue to make seven threes a game — or hit about 50 percent of them. But Sixers center Joel Embiid is doing everything he can to make sure Maxey stays on the same path.
“He’s one of the best shooters and he’s got the ability to be out there,” Embiid said, per Keith Pompeo . Philadelphia Inquirer. “You know, a big stroke. He can really shoot the ball, great form, he makes them. There’s a reason I always stick with him to let it fly. He needs to score 10 to 15 threes in a game. He’s such a good shooter.”
Maxey isn’t new to receiving ringing endorsements from Joel Embiid, but the Sixers can only hope the big man stays on the young guard and gives him a shot.
With Maxey proving to be a legitimate three-point threat through last year’s regular season playoffs and now this season, he really has a chance to establish himself as one of the NBA’s premier three-point shooters.
