GUWAHATI: Assam, on Thursday, recorded 91 new cases of dengue.
With the detection of 91 new cases, the number of dengue in Assam has reached 642 in the last 10 days.
Out of 91 new dengue cases in Assam, 65 were reported from Karbi Anglong district.
12 cases of dengue have been found in and around Guwahati in Assam.
Three cases were also recorded from Dibrugarh, two each from Darrang, Dima Hasao and Goalpara districts of Assam.
Meanwhile, one case each has been registered in Dhemaji, Kamrup, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts of Assam.
Karbi Anglong district of Assam is the worst affected area of Dengue.
All educational institutions in Diphu in Assam have been ordered to remain closed this week.
Preventive measures have been initiated to prevent “the next epidemic”.
WHAT IS DENGUE?
Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes.
Dengue is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.
The virus responsible for dengue is called dengue virus (DENV).
Dengue virus is primarily transmitted by the Aedes mosquito.
Aedes mosquitoes prefer to lay their eggs in artificial water containers.
They live close to people.
They feed on humans instead of other vertebrates.
They usually bite early in the morning and in the evening.
The infection can be transmitted by a single bite.
Symptoms include high fever, headache, rash and muscle and joint pain.
In severe cases there is severe bleeding and shock, which can be life-threatening.
Treatment includes fluids and pain relievers.
Severe cases require hospital care.
