The Center for Digital Literacy and the Digital Security Agency under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department jointly held a workshop titled ‘Digital Literacy and Cyber Security for Media Personnel’ in the capital on Monday to raise awareness of digital literacy and cyber security.
In collaboration with Technology Media Guild Bangladesh (TMGB), the workshop was attended by 50 media personnel working in various media in Bangladesh, said a press release. The workshop provided training on some basic digital issues such as cyber security, cyber bullying, rumours, online privacy, digital footprint, etc.
Bangladesh Computer Board Executive Director Ranjit Kumar, Technology Media Guild (TMGB) President Mohammad Kawsar Uddin and TMGB General Secretary Mursalin Haq Zonaid graced the occasion as special guests.
The seminar was chaired by the Director General of the Digital Security Agency, Khairul Amin. Saiful Alam, project director of the Digital Literacy Center of the ICT Department, gave a welcome speech at the event.
In his introductory speech, senior secretary of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies N.M. Zeul Alam said that cyber attacks are on the rise in Bangladesh as in the rest of the world.
“We are aware of this, but we need to push this awareness initiative more. Only then will we be able to defeat cyberattacks,” he said.
He said that the youth should now be more careful and aware of the cyber world. Otherwise, serious incidents may occur. “We have to deal with this with joint efforts,” he added.
TMGB President Mohammad Kawsar Uddin said, “We believe that media personnel can play a leading role in keeping the people of the country safe online through their news coverage as well as their own online safety.”
Mohammad Kawsar Uddin said that the ICT Department is going to conduct such a workshop across the country where TMGB will be a stakeholder.
Digital Security Agency Director General ICT Department Mohammad Khairul Amin chaired the workshop.
TMGB General Secretary Mursalin Haq Zonaid said that cyber security awareness can be spread through such initiatives.
