Sleuths of the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Directorate of the Assam police on Friday arrested two government employees while accepting a bribe in Assam’s Lakhimpur district. The arrested government employee was named Tarun Ch. Morang, Assistant Chief Engineer Office, Lakhimpur Water Resources Circle and Samarjyoti Saikia, UDA, Superintending Engineer Office, Lakhimpur Water Resources Circle.
Rajib Saikia, CPRO of Assam Police said that a complaint was received from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, alleging that a bribe of Rs 6,000 was demanded by Samarjyoti Saikia, UDA, Office of Superintendent Engineer, Lakhimpur Water Circle Resources District. Lakhimpur from the complainant on behalf of and Tarun Ch. Morang, Assistant Chief, Office of the Superintending Engineer, Lakhimpur Water Circle for arranging and issuing license to the complainant contractor. “The complainant, who did not want to pay the bribe, went to the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Directorate to take legal action against the public servant. , Office of Chief Engineer Lakhimpur Water Circle of Lakhimpur district. The tainted bribe money was found in the property of Tarun Ch. Morang in the presence of independent witnesses.
“Both Tarun Ch. Morang and Samarjyoti Saikia have been caught. Accordingly, a case has been registered at ACB Police Station on 04/11/2022 vide ACB PS Case No. 52/2022 U/S 120(B) IPC, R/W Sec 7 (a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against Tarun Ch. Morang and Samarjyoti Saikia,” said Rajib Saikia. Assam Police CPRO said that necessary legal follow-up action is underway. (ANI)
