Earlier, the Meghalaya Police from Langpih and Aradonga rushed to the spot only to find the cutting work going on at Noapara. This, however, was stopped by the intervention of the Circle Officer of Boko Dibas Bordoloi.

Protesters in Meghalaya and Assam initially did not want to compromise, even with police bail. However, the arrival of the leaders of the two regional governments and a subsequent meeting calmed the situation.

The disputed Langpih, which is part of the negotiations between Assam and Meghalaya to resolve their border dispute, is only 12km from Noapara.
