Guwahati, Nov 5: The Guwahati police on Saturday morning seized a large quantity of smuggled drugs worth Rs 15 crore from a vehicle from Assam’s Kamrup (Metro) district.
A large quantity of illegal drugs was recovered from Sonapur area of Guwahati where the police also arrested one drug peddler from Manipur.
This operation of Assam Police was praised by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and he took to twitter to appreciate the same.
Police informed that based on a tip-off, a team of Guwahati city police led by Joint Commissioner of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta launched an operation and seized a vehicle with registration number DL-7CK-8778 from Nazirakhat Gate. near Sonapur.
Speaking to the media, the Joint Commissioner of Police, Partha Sarathi Mahanta said that during the search, the police found 60,000 Yaba tablets in the hidden compartments of the vehicle. They arrested one person who was dealing in drugs, he added.
The arrested drug dealer has been identified as Mohammad Ajmal Khan, a resident of Thoubal district in Manipur.
