GUWAHATI: Two employees of the Lakhimpur Water Resources Circle superintendent’s office were arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 from an individual.

They have been identified as Assistant Principal Tarun Ch Morang and Upper Division Assistant (UDA) Samarjyoti Saikia.

They are accused of taking a bribe of Rs 6,000 from an individual to process and issue licenses to contractors.

The two were trapped in a complaint by a contractor.

He said that Samarjyoti Saikia, UDA representing Tarun Ch Morang demanded Rs 6,000 from him.

However, unwilling to pay the bribe, the contractor went to the vigilante wing and the accused were arrested.

A statement issued by the police said, “A trap was laid today by a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in the office of Chief Engineer Lakhimpur Water Resources Circle.” Tarun Ch Morang was caught with bribe money handed over by Samarjyoti Saikia.”

ACB Police Station case under section 120(B) of IPC read with section 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against Tarun Ch Morang and Samarjyoti Saikia has been registered.
