New Delhi [India]November 7 (ANI/PNN): Assam Rifles organized the second edition of Half Marathon as a part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebration on 6th Nov 2022, at Headquarters of Directorate General of Assam Rifles, Laitkor, Shillong.
The Half Marathon celebrates 76 years of India’s development and the glorious history of its people, culture, achievements and growing “Fit India Movement”. The race is open to men and women in different age categories.
The run showcased the spirit of unity in diversity and promoting National Unity.
The grandly organized event, set against the backdrop of the beautiful hills of Khasi district in Laitkor district, was a resounding success as evidenced by the enthusiastic participation of the workers and families of Assam. Rifle, Army, Air Force, CRPF, CISF, SSB. , BSF and Meghalaya Police.
Adding a local flavor to the competition, modern Cross Country runners from the Meghalaya Olympic Association also participated in the Mega event and presented a challenge to the runners of the Armed Forces and CAPFs. The race is divided into three sections namely 21 Km, 10 Km and 5 Km and each has its own age group. A total of 303 people participated in the 21 Kms half marathon, 512 in the 10 Kms and 224 people in the 5 km fun run.
Governor of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, Brig. (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd) graced the occasion as the chief guest and appreciated the enthusiasm and enthusiasm of the participants and the audience. The Governor of Banadir Region awarded prizes to the students who won the 21-Km.
The winners of 21 Kms in different age groups were Emphius Nongrum and Darisha Langjuh, aged 21 to 30, Suvisje and Lt Col Shreya Rawat aged 31 to 40, Comdt Pramod Kumar and Mrs Aarti Yadav aged 41. up to 50 years old. team and Col Eben Simeon and Beena Venkatesh in the over 50 age group. Lt Gen PC Nair, AVSM, YSM, PhD, DG Assam Rifles also participated in the over 50 age category of 21 Kms.
The enthusiasm and passion of the Marathon was further enhanced by the participation of women and children from all walks of life.
Children as young as 5 years of age participated and successfully completed the 5 km segment showing passion and determination.
The Assamese soldiers known as ‘Sentinels of the North East’ have dedicated themselves to the peace and development of the North East. She has done many activities to promote “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” and “Fit India Movement” in the past.
This not only brings regional cohesion but also plays a significant role towards National Building and Unity, making it a “Unifying Force in the North East”.
