Guwahati: Nearly 80 percent of the 43,595 voters cast their votes in the Deori assembly elections in Assam on Tuesday, an official statement said.
The total voter turnout was 79.99 percent as voters from 22 constituencies spread across six districts and four districts in some other districts attended 93 polling stations.
Of the total number of voters, 21,412 are men and 22,183 are women, according to a press release from the office of the secretary of the Assam State Election Commission (ASEC).
“There were no untoward incidents such as takeovers or election-related violence reported and the election ended peacefully,” she said, adding that there had been no request for a recount. .
The votes cast will be counted on Thursday.
Of the 75 members nominated for the contest, 18 are from the ruling BJP, 14 from the Congress, 7 from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), four from the Asom Gana Parishad, two from Raijor Dal and one of the Assam Jatiya Parishad.
29 independent candidates are also trying their luck.
