After All India United Democratic FrontAIUDF leader Badruddin Ajmal has expressed his interest in joining the Congress factions to fight against the BJP, the previous major party. denied any such possibility.
Ruling out the hope, the Assam Congress noted that there is no way to develop an alliance again with Ajmal’s party.
In a statement, state Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah told ANI that the party has no interest in forming an alliance with the AIUDF, further describing it as a “communal force”.
“We are against this view and people are supporting us. Speaking on behalf of AICC, our general secretary Jitendra Singh announced on November 1 that there will be no alliance with AIUDF. This is the commitment of the All India Congress Committee. people of Assam,” said Borah.
Several times in the past, the Congress and the AIUDF had teamed up to contest the Assam polls, however, they decided to sever ties.
The Congress has also said that it is open to tie up with other political parties that oppose the BJP and the AIUDF.
Borah cited two reasons for the Congress party’s refusal to form an alliance with Ajmal. He said that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is controlled by AIUDF and supports Ajmal’s agar business in the state, while Ajmal declared Sarma as the supreme chief minister of Assam.
