He spoke briefly about the initiatives of Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra Society like National Exhibition of Srimanta Sankardev, Rukmini Haran’s play translated into Gujarati and its performance in that language, Parijat Haran’s play translated into French and others. Paying a rich tribute to Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, Chief Minister Dr Sarma said that the 15th century saint tried to unite the region with the help of great Indian culture and identity. The main philosophy of Srimanta Sankardev is based on the concept of Vedanta, said the chief minister, adding that in the 15th century he tried to find a common ground between the definition of Vedanta and Bhakti worship.
Referring to the culture as the most important foundation of a progressive society, the minister talked about the activities of the Asam government to enrich and protect the cultural identity of the indigenous communities in the region. He specifically pointed to the establishment of the Tribal Religion & Culture Department by the Assam government.
The Prime Minister promised all necessary measures to protect, preserve and expand the marginalized communities of the State.
