Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to induct retired soldiers into the police force to train officers.
To strengthen the training programs of police brigades, the cabinet has decided to appoint 34 retired police officers as additional inspectors of police (training) on contract basis, the official said.
They will report to a special DIG (training), he said.
The Cabinet also approved the utilization of funds of Rs 56.76-crore, with Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Ltd (AEGCL), to complete three ongoing projects.
It has given its nod to the installation of smart meters in the state by Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL).
A total of 58 lakh smart meters will be installed in three years at an estimated cost of Rs 4,536.79 crore.
The cabinet also approved a proposal to bring pay equity and promotion (up to selection level) to Assam civil servants and Assam Police Service officers.
