The McLaren Senna was named after the late Ayrton Senna, considered Brazil’s greatest driver, and set a new record at the country’s most famous race track, the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace, also known as Interlagos.
The track that represents Brazil on the Formula 1 calendar will be the venue for this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix. At that time, the car was driven by professional driver Ricardo Mauricio.
Driving as part of the UK Motors Academy Porto Seguros event, hosted by importer McLaren in Brazil, Mauricio’s best time was 1:37.856, 5.1 seconds faster than the previous record.

“Wonderful!” said Mauricio. “I’ve been told the car is exciting to drive, and it’s reliable on the road. The torque and acceleration are very strong and powerful.”
In total, the driver and car completed a total of 25 laps, including in and out of the pits. It didn’t take much all that time, because Mauricio was able to beat the previous record by 1.6 seconds on his first attempt. His fastest rate is sixth.
Another feather in the cap of McLaren Senna, he has previously set records at the National Corvette Museum’s Motorsport Park, at the Virginia International Raceway, Laguna Seca, Hockenheim, and the Sachsenring, in the hands of various driver.
With a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, Senna can use 789 hp (588 kW/800 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. It can sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h). Meanwhile, McLaren’s RaceActive Chassis Control II helps the suspension and active aerodynamics front and rear produce up to 1,763.7 lbs (800 kg) of downforce.
