The Regional Legal Services Authority (DLSA), in association with the regional office and under the jurisdiction of the National Legal Services Authority and the Punjab Stat Legal Services Authority, organized a mega camp law at Saroop Rani Government College for Girls here on Thursday.
Harpreet Kaur Randhawa, District and Sessions Judge, inaugurated the camp. He visited each store and interacted with representatives from all departments. He said about 20 departments of the Punjab Government and the Center participated in the camp and made the participants aware of various welfare programs being run by the Center and the state government.
During the camp, a lecture on legal literacy was also delivered, in which Advocate Kirpal Kaur informed the participants about the various legal aid services provided by the Punjab State Legal Services Authority, including Alternative Dispute Resolution methods, Lok Adalats, Mediation and Conciliation Centre, Defense Compensation Scheme, Legal Aid Volunteer Services, Legal Aid Clinic and Legal Literacy Clubs in Schools and Colleges etc. He said that prisoners, whether guilty or under trial, are entitled to free legal aid under the 1987 Rule of Law. Similarly, if a person is tried by the court and intends to file an appeal/appeal against the judicial order, he can also submit an application to the office of the DLSA. All expenses incurred during the case will be covered by the DLSA.
The participants were also told about the toll free number 1968, where people can get free legal help 24×7.
Randhawa, speaking on the occasion, said that the upcoming National Lok Adalat will be organized at Amritsar district and Ajnala and Baba Bakala sub-divisional courts on Saturday.
