Santa Rosa police detectives and SWAT members arrested 28-year-old Vincent Cervantes Friday night at his home following an investigation into an early morning shooting.
Police say Cervantes is suspected of being the man who approached two people on Creek Road near the 2900 block of Bay Village Circle in northwest Santa Rosa and fired three rounds. The victims were not injured in the shooting.
Detectives are still investigating a motive, but Cervantes knew the victims, Sgt. Brandon Mathis, SRPD’s violent crimes investigator, told The Press Democrat.
SRPD officers charged Cervantes with aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of ammunition, also a felony.
The shooting happened at 11:13 a.m. Friday, and the shooter fled the scene after the shooting, according to a police press release about the arrest. Responding officers did not find the shooter, but officers identified Cervantes as the suspect by 7 p.m. The statement did not describe what evidence led police to secure the warrant and arrest Cervantes.
The arrest took place in the 2800 block of Pioneer Way near Pioneer Park and less than a mile from the scene of the shooting. According to the police, more evidence was found against Cervantes during a search of his house.
SRPD detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting. Anyone with information about the investigation can contact SRPD through the agency’s online tip line: www.srcity.org/CrimeTips.
