GREENVILLE, SC (FOX CAROLINA) – The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office recently released new details regarding a deputy-involved shooting that left one person dead. Our FOX Carolina staff is working to edit the body camera footage from the incident so it can be presented to our viewers.
Deputies say on the morning of September 28, 2022, Greenville County Communications received a 911 call from a woman who claimed to be receiving threatening text messages from her ex-boyfriend, 34-year-old Terence Sligh.
Audio from that 911 call reveals the woman requested a police presence because she feared Slig would come to her home and “do something” to her.
The 911 operator asked the woman what kind of threat Slig had made. She replied that Slig said he would kill her and that she needed to listen to him. The woman said that his phone number has been blocked and he keeps trying to call her.
The operator asked what kind of weapons the slig was carrying. The woman replied that she had seen two guns in her possession when she called her on Facebook recently. The woman added that Slick also had a drinking problem.
Deputies say they arrived at the woman’s location within seconds. Body camera footage shows the woman handing her phone to deputies so they could talk to Slig on the other end of the line.
In the footage – deputies are seen on the phone with Slig, asking why he was repeatedly calling the woman.
Sligh was arguing with the deputies and hung up saying he was going to “pull over” to their place.
While waiting for Slig to arrive, deputies continued to speak with the woman. She explained that Slig’s drinking problem was worrisome. He had an ankle monitor for six months – and during that time he was “good,” she said. But – when it was removed a few days ago, she said he started threatening to kill her.
A short time later, Slig called the woman’s phone two more times. Deputies tried to talk to him, but Slig eventually hung up on them.
Deputies say after further investigation into the woman’s complaints, Sligh obtained an arrest warrant for unlawful communication. Deputies say they responded to Slig’s residence on Edwards Road based on the nature of his threats to women and law enforcement officers, as well as pictures of Slig with guns. To serve the warrant.
Deputies say they began surveillance and soon saw Wade in his silver Ford Taurus heading north on Hampton Blvd.
Around 10:22 a.m., deputies say the suspect car stopped at multiple corners and activated blue lights and at least one siren.
Deputies say that while Slig stopped, he opened the driver’s side door, produced a handgun and fired at least one round at deputies.
Fearing for their safety, deputies say they fired back and fatally struck the suspect.
Officials say the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been requested to conduct an investigation, as is standard for all officer-involved shootings.
Deputies say shortly after SLED arrived on scene, the suspect found a handgun with at least one round in the chamber on the driver’s side floorboard of his car.
