ATLANTA – A teenager is now in custody after a fatal shooting in the parking lot of a Chick-fil-A over the weekend.
Atlanta police said the 16-year-old victim, a teenager, was sitting in a car at a restaurant on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when he “recklessly” pointed a gun and fatally shot the victim.
The 16-year-old was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Two weeks ago, Channel 2 Action News He was talking about a separate shooting outside a Chick-fil-A location on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
A 21-year-old man was shot dead as he was leaving the restaurant, police said. The accused fled from the spot.
“It’s so bad, it’s routine, it’s become normal,” said Johnny Mims with the MLK-Ashby Merchants Association.
Channel 2’s Dave Huddleston After the first shooting, he arrived at the location and talked to Mims about the shootings in the area and the car break-ins. Mims said they are trying to help big businesses pay for off-duty police to patrol the area.

Channel 2 has learned that a meeting will be held with the police along with the large restaurants and stores on the street and the merchants association. Mims believes this is an important step because the police cannot do it alone.
“Honestly, they don’t have the resources or the officers to deal with every street in this city that has problems, and I get that, and that’s why we as a community need to step up and help ourselves.”
Sources told Channel 2 that Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has been working behind the scenes to get everyone around the table and come up with solutions to fight rising crime.
