Millet Operation: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Assam Millet Operation | Media Pyro

With a view to expand and increase millet cultivation across the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Assam Millet Mission.

Along with the opening of Operation Millet, Chief Dr. Sarma also inaugurated six Soil Testing and Quality Control laboratories at Bongaigaon, Morigaon, Udalguri, Golaghat, Karimganj and Darrang and two knowledge centers at Dhemaji and Titabor under the same programme. In coordination with the program, Sarma also started the process of distribution of 126 integrated goats, 1000 small, 450 farm machinery bank at village level, 12000 Solar PV Pump Set, 8500 five HP Diesel Pump set, 5091 electricity, seed 2239614 quintals, multipursep . pulverizer.

Sarma said, “It is a historic day in the history of agriculture in the region. The day marked by the inauguration of Mission Assam is aimed at increasing the amount of nutrition and doubling the income of farmers. The operation will also increase crop production and contribute to crop diversification”.

The minister said that this operation was launched jointly with the Prime Minister’s objective of Atmanirbharta (self-sufficiency). With the introduction of millet operation, the farmers of Assam can diversify their production practices and other than the regular crops, they can increase their fields to grow millet.

Therefore, he congratulated the Department of Agriculture which took responsibility for the launch of this millet operation which will be implemented in 25000 hectares of agricultural land. After that, 50,000 hectares of agricultural land will be added in the region.

He also said that these knowledge centers that he inaugurated today will help farmers in the region to get knowledge and control of millet farming. He informed that in the coming days 96 more knowledge centers will be implemented across the region under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) aimed at increasing the number of agricultural products.

Sarma urged the farmers to take advantage of Mission Boundhara 2.0 and change their land status to patta land. He also informed that from next year, his government has fixed the MSP for Rs. 2040 per quintal. Therefore, he asked the farmers to sell their cotton to the government. He also said that with this subsidy, the government is helping the local youth to establish industries and other agricultural infrastructure.

Sarma also asked the farmers to plant different plants like sal, agar etc. around the agricultural land where they live and apart from the commercial benefits it will also be a symbol of marking their land. He also asked them to diversify into palm cultivation.

In addition, considering the huge demand for citrus, bhut jolokia, joha rice, he asked the farmers to grow these crops more so that they become self-sufficient and economical. He also asked them to practice their farming practices and help the government to start a new revolution in agriculture. He also spoke about the need for Assam to be self-sufficient in milk, poultry, fish, eggs etc. and for the government to intervene to find new life in these sectors.

Agriculture Minister Atul Boora, who spoke there, briefly reported on the plans of his department for the development of agriculture. He thanked the minister for leading the Department of Agriculture to launch various plans to take care of farmers and increase agricultural production.
