Guwahati: Assam Police has eliminated the newly formed militant Adivasi People’s Liberation Army (APLA), a senior official said on Thursday.
Nine cadres of the group were arrested on Wednesday from Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts and arms and ammunition were recovered from them, he said.
Director General of Police GP Singh tweeted, “@assampolice has eliminated a new APLA insurgent group from Golaghat and Karbi Anglong in less than four days. Nine armed cadres have been arrested.”
“We continue to have zero tolerance for violence and groups that claim violence,” he posted.
The official said, “We are not sure exactly when this group was established, but we are sure that it was formed recently.”
“These were cadres of Adivasi militant groups who are now in peace talks with the government. They are trying to regroup as a new group,” he added.
