TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – Losing candidate Kari Lake has dropped her race against Katie Hobbs, governor-elect.
He posted a two-and-a-half-minute video message on Twitter, telling his followers he was “still fighting.”
On the video, he refused, blaming his death on others, such as election officials in Maricopa County, saying, “We failed miserably.”
Although some machines malfunctioned on election day, they were repaired and everyone was allowed to vote. Some voters complained of long wait times and long lines due to poor equipment.
“At its worst, people are dealing with these problems,” said Jeff Rogers, a Tucson attorney and former chairman of the Pima County Democratic Party. “But people were not denied the right to vote.”
Lake did not run in the election and has not said where he is going here but said he has assembled a legal team, hinting that a legal challenge may be in the offing.
It’s not known if the election will be contested, but Rogers says Arizona’s Reform Acts are very legal when it happens.
Rogers says he has seen no evidence that Lake’s allegations rise to that level.
“I think this is just a complaint and another part of the election ban,” he said. “In the 20-25 years I’ve been involved in politics, I’ve never seen a successful election challenge.”
In his video release, Lake said, “We are exploring all avenues to correct the many wrongs that have been done this past week. I am working hard to correct those wrongs.
One of the things he says is that Hobbs will not leave the Secretary of State’s office while running for Governor. However, elections in Arizona are controlled by each county, not by the Secretary of State.
Judges in Arizona have been very protective of elections, voting rights and elections in recent court challenges.
If Lake has a legal strategy, Rogers says his lawyers should tread lightly.
“All over the country we are seeing lawyers being punished and disbarred by party groups for making these ridiculous claims about Trump and other Trump supporters and the same thing happened in Arizona. .” he said.
According to Rogers, he is concerned about the internal strategy of not agreeing.
“Just lie about the election and question the legitimacy of the election,” he said. “Because voters and others have little faith in our democratic system, these are the people who want to cancel the elections as we know them.”
