Dibrugarh: A 48-year-old man drowned in the Brahmaputra in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Tuesday while taking a bath on the occasion of Kartik Purnima, officials said.
Assam State Disaster Management (ASDMA) Project Manager (Dibrugarh) Deepjyoti Hatikakoti said the incident took place near the river bank near the SP office in Dibrugarh.
The deceased was named Mithu Basfor, and he was one of the people living in Harijan New Market, he added.
“Basfor’s body was retrieved from the Brahmaputra by the SDRF team. He drowned in the river while bathing,” Hatikakoti said.
Another person identified as Mantu Basfor also drowned in the river but was rescued by local residents and rushed to the Assam Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
