CENTER TOWNSHIP – A driver going 13 mph in a 45-mph zone along Interstate 130 was found to be more than four times the legal limit for drinking and driving, Porter County police said.
An officer said he pulled over the slow-moving vehicle at 12:13 a.m. Saturday after seeing it swerve into oncoming traffic.
The driver, Maxwell Ruitto, 27, of Portage, reportedly had difficulty processing the requested documents and handed the officer a handful of empty documents.
While denying he had been drinking, Ruitto smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests, and at one point tripped over the hood of his car, according to arrest report.
Ruitto’s blood alcohol level was found to be .356, or four and a half times the legal limit of .08, police said.
