Diganta Tamuli, general secretary of Tai-Ahom Yuba Parishad said that they will campaign for BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha elections if ST status is not given.
The Assam Police on Monday asked the union to call off the proposal of Assam bandh on Tuesday. The police served special legal notices under section 152 of the CrPC on the SJJM members’ chapters and noted that “there is every possibility of disturbing the society at large and even breaching peace, security and law and order. The notices also mentioned that “the bandh call has been declared illegal and unconstitutional in various judgments of the Supreme Court of India. “Special attention was drawn to the special order issued by the Gauhati High Court in case of No WP (C) 7570 / 2013 dated 19/03/2019 you are warned that if the illegal call is not withdrawn immediately, legal action will be taken against you.
The notices also mentioned that “in case of damage to public or private property or injury to any citizen due to bandh, appropriate action in accordance with the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act 1984 will be taken against you and ( cost) damages recovered from your organization.”
