Police shot and killed a man in Guthrie Tuesday after he allegedly pointed a weapon at officers, police said.
The shooting happened in a neighborhood near North Elm Street and East Warner Avenue.
Officials said he was airlifted to OU Health in critical condition. His condition has since improved, according to Guthrie Sgt. Anthony Gibbs.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirmed to News 9 that Guthrie is assisting police with the shooting investigation.
Before the shooting, an officer and a Logan County deputy were conducting a neighborhood welfare check when they saw a man with a rifle push a woman into the home, Gibbs said.
“At that point they didn’t know if there was a hostage situation or not,” Gibbs said. “Shortly thereafter, the subject exited the residence, pointed a weapon at officers and was fired upon by two officers.”
Both the deputy and the officer fired their weapons, Gibbs said. It is not known if he fired the shot before he was shot.
Gibbs said he ran at the officers with a rifle pointed at them. Officers ordered the man to stop, but he ignored them, Gibbs said.
The woman who was in the home with the man was not injured. Gibbs said the man and woman live in the home where the shooting happened.
Guthrie police requested the OSBI take over the investigation as GPD and the county sheriff’s office became involved.
