A shooting in Tallahassee, Florida on Saturday left one dead and eight injured.
At Half-Time Liquors and Los Compadres on West Pensacola Street, several people began shooting just before midnight, and police were “controlling the crowd at multiple locations,” the Tallahassee Police Department said in a news release. West Pensacola Street is near Florida A&M University and Florida State University.
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said at a Sunday morning news conference that officers heard the gunshots and found an adult male outside the liquor store who was wounded and died at the scene.
Police observed an armed man open fire on a large crowd before running into the McDonald’s. Two officers followed him and gave him verbal commands to drop his weapon, police said.
The youth was shot dead by the police to prevent further intimidation and to avoid injury to anyone else in the crowd. Tallahassee police said the man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken into custody.
“Eight others sustained minor to serious injuries,” the police said. The ages and identities of the victims have not been released.
Three suspects are in custody, Revell told a news conference that more arrests have not been ruled out and that the incident remains under investigation.
Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident, the chief said.
