Chicago (WLS) — One man was killed and another seriously injured after an attempted robbery at a South Shore grocery store.

Chicago Police said the incident happened in the 2600-block of East 73rd Street around 6:20 p.m.

According to CPD, a man entered the store and pulled out a gun to begin the robbery. A good Samaritan, who CPD said had valid FOID and CCL cards, pulled out a gun and shot the robber.

Police said the robber returned fire and hit a third person in the store at the time.

The robber died on the spot. The 64-year-old man, who was shot by the perpetrator, was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition. The CCL holder was not injured.

Police said three guns were recovered from the scene. An investigation is underway.
